Power Point Types for Dubbo Homes
Standard GPOs
The standard 10A general purpose outlet (GPO) is the most common power point type. Used for the majority of household appliances. Double GPOs give two sockets from a single wall plate and are the standard for most installations today.
USB Power Points
USB-A and USB-C combination power points build charging ports directly into the wall plate. They're particularly popular in bedrooms (phone charging), home offices (laptop/tablet), and kitchens. USB-C versions support fast charging for modern devices. They're wired the same as standard GPOs — a straightforward substitute.
Outdoor and Weatherproof
External power points need to be IP-rated for exposure to water ingress. In Australia, outdoor GPOs must have a spring-loaded weatherproof cover. We install outdoor points on walls, pergolas, and garden structures across Delroy Park and Brocklehurst — useful for power tools, garden lighting, outdoor entertaining equipment, and garden irrigation controllers.
15A and 20A High-Current Outlets
Some appliances require more than the standard 10A circuit — workshop machinery, some air conditioner types, EV chargers (in some configurations), large washing machines, and commercial catering equipment. A 15A or 20A outlet has a different pin configuration to prevent standard appliances from being connected to a circuit they can't safely use.
